New archive facilities for the Stationers' Company
PBA designed and oversaw construction for the new archive facilities at The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.
‘In 1666 the Great Fire destroyed Stationers’ Hall along with the major part of the City of London. George Tokefield, the Clerk of the Stationer’s Hall, managed to remove most of the Company’s records to his house in Clerkenwell, ensuring the survival of its unique archive.’ (Read more about the Hall’s history here).
The new archive and reading rooms are housed within an existing historic courtyard building adjacent to the Great Hall and Court Room. Despite the age of the building, the new archive provides state of the art climate-controlled storage for rare books and documents as well as user-friendly reading rooms for researchers.
